Dyker Library
Dyker Library sits at the heart of one of Brooklyn's most proudly Italian-American neighborhoods, a one-story branch where residents helped choose the very site before it opened in 1974. Its striking blue-green glazed brick exterior, designed by architect Daniel Laitin, makes it one of the most visually distinctive buildings on 13th Avenue.

📖 About Dyker Library

Dyker Library opened in 1974 in Dyker Heights, a close-knit neighborhood of brick row houses along the Brooklyn–Bay Ridge border. Designed by architect Daniel Laitin, the single-story structure is immediately recognizable for its blue-green glazed brick exterior and pre-cast concrete windows. Community involvement shaped the branch from the start: neighborhood residents actively participated in a controversy over the site selection as early as 1968, ensuring the library would serve the area it was built for. Today it hosts a Friends volunteer group that champions the branch through advocacy and programming support, including an annual family concert in partnership with Carnegie Hall.
