📖 About Borough Park Library

Borough Park Library traces its roots to 1904, when a small reading collection opened in the Edgewood Reformed Chapel near 54th Street and 14th Avenue. By 1907, when the collection became an official Brooklyn Public Library branch, more than 60 percent of the neighborhood was foreign-born or first-generation American. The present building at 43rd Street and 13th Avenue opened on November 28, 1955, with a collection of 53,000 volumes — nearly double its predecessor's holdings. Today the branch anchors a neighborhood home to one of the largest concentrations of ultra-Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish residents in the United States, and its Sunday hours, established with support from the David Berg Foundation, reflect that community's needs.
