📖 About Spring Creek Library

Spring Creek Library opened in the summer of 1977 during the fiscal austerities of the Beame administration, initially sharing staff with Canarsie Library and offering limited hours. The single-story, 7,500-square-foot building was designed from the outset as a low-cost, energy-efficient structure to serve residents of four surrounding housing developments, including Starrett City — built between 1972 and 1975 and, at nearly 6,000 units, one of the largest federally assisted rental properties in the United States. Renamed Spring Creek Towers in 2002, the complex still anchors the branch's service area. Today Spring Creek Library holds collections in English and Russian, hosts citizenship preparation and ESOL classes, and provides immigration legal services through ActionNYC and the Immigrant Justice Corps.
