📖 About Kings Bay Library

Kings Bay Library first opened in 1951 in a Nostrand Avenue storefront, then moved across the street in 1959 to its current two-story building, which opened to the public in 1960. A comprehensive cellar-to-attic renovation in 1999 brought the branch into ADA compliance and modernized its facilities; a further $2.1 million renovation followed in 2004. The library serves a richly diverse Sheepshead Bay community and maintains an extensive multilingual collection — including Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Polish, and Yiddish materials — reflecting the neighborhood's successive waves of immigrant communities. Its Robotics Team for young adults has repeatedly placed among top competitors at regional events.
