📖 About Brooklyn Heights Library
The Brooklyn Heights Library at 286 Cadman Plaza West is one of Brooklyn Public Library's newest and largest branches, opening in June 2022 at the foot of a 34-story condominium tower marketed as One Clinton (1 Clinton Street). The branch replaced BPL's aging mid-century building on the same site, which had long housed the system's Business & Career Library before those functions were consolidated into the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza. To fund the new branch and a slate of affordable housing, Brooklyn Public Library sold the development rights to Hudson Companies in a deal finalized in 2016, and the developer built the tower with a modern, Gensler-designed library at its base. At more than 26,000 square feet, it is the second-largest library in the Brooklyn Public Library system after Central. The airy, light-filled space includes a dedicated children's area, a separate teen library, public meeting rooms, and a multipurpose community room that seats up to 225 people, making it a major civic anchor for Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn.
