📖 About Westchester Square Library
The Westchester Square Library began serving the public in 1937 and relocated to its present two-story building at 2521 Glebe Avenue in 1956, embedding itself in a neighborhood with one of the deepest histories in the entire Bronx. Westchester Square was settled by English colonists around 1654 — they called it Oostdorp (East Towne) under Dutch rule — and the area served as the seat of the Town of Westchester until its annexation by New York City in 1895. The library building places adult, young adult, and reference collections on the first floor, with the children's room upstairs, and hosts after-school tutoring for ages 6–12 alongside creative workshops and storytime programming.
