📖 About Clason's Point Branch

The Clason's Point Branch opened in its current one-story brick building on Morrison Avenue in May 1971, replacing the branch's original 1952 location on Harrod Place. It serves Community District 9 in the southeastern Bronx, a densely residential area shaped by the Soundview Houses (1954) and Monroe Houses (1961) public housing developments built after the IRT Pelham Line extended along Westchester Avenue in 1920. The building's community room at the rear hosts library programs as well as meetings for local organizations, making it a civic anchor on a block between 172nd Street and Westchester Avenue.
