📖 About Morrisania Library

The Morrisania Library opened in 1908, funded by a grant from Andrew Carnegie and designed by the New York architectural firm Babb, Cook & Willard — the same office responsible for several Carnegie branches across New York City. The two-story building places adult and young adult collections on the first floor and the children's library on the second, a layout preserved through more than a century of community use. Morrisania itself takes its name from the Morris family's colonial-era manor, and the neighborhood today is a predominantly Latino and African American community in the southwestern Bronx. The branch is fully accessible and has eliminated late fines.
