📖 About Van Cortlandt Branch

The Van Cortlandt Branch has been a fixture of the Kingsbridge neighborhood in northwest Bronx since the 1930s, operating from several locations before moving in 2019 into its current two-story, 5,800-square-foot building on Cannon Place — three times the size of the beloved but cramped one-room space it replaced. In November 2021, the building was named the Arline Schwarzman Building, honoring a proud Bronx native and longtime Van Cortlandt resident whose lifelong love of reading and learning was kindled at this very branch, and who passed that passion on to her children, including NYPL Trustee Stephen A. Schwarzman. The branch maintains Russian- and Spanish-language collections for all ages alongside an extensive genre paperback selection, and sits within easy reach of the Jerome Park Reservoir and historic Van Cortlandt Park.
