📖 About Mayfair Branch
The Mayfair Branch has moved three times over eight decades of community service: the first branch was dedicated October 3, 1942 at 4750 N. Kenneth Avenue after years of neighborhood advocacy; it relocated to a larger space at 4750 N. Keeler Avenue in September 1974; and the current building at 4400 W. Lawrence Avenue was dedicated June 29, 1996. The branch sits in the Albany Park community area — one of Chicago's most linguistically diverse neighborhoods, where successive waves of immigrants from Scandinavia, the Middle East, Korea, and Central America have settled since the 1907 arrival of the Ravenswood elevated rail. The branch has a meeting room available for community reservations and runs a Teacher in the Library program on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30–6:30 PM, staffed by certified educators.
