📖 About Pullman Branch

The Pullman Branch serves the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago's Far South Side, a community built in the 1880s by industrialist George Pullman as a planned town for workers of the Pullman Palace Car Company. Architect Solon Spencer Beman designed the original district, which achieved National Historic Landmark status in 1972 and was redesignated a National Historical Park by Congress in December 2022. Today Pullman is a predominantly African-American neighborhood (77% Black as of 2024) undergoing active historic preservation. The branch offers a Teacher in the Library homework help program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, Digital Navigator one-on-one technology tutoring, film screenings, and youth story time — serving a community that values both its industrial heritage and its future.
