The West Town Branch is located at 1625 W. Chicago Avenue in West Town, a 4.57-square-mile community area comprising eight sub-neighborhoods including Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, and Noble Square. West Town was historically home to one of the largest Polish communities in the United States, drawing an estimated 150,000 Polish immigrants between 1939 and 1959, and later became home to significant Puerto Rican and Latino communities. Today the neighborhood has a median household income of $141,208 and a highly educated population, yet the branch remains committed to newcomers: it maintains Polish- and Spanish-language collections, hosts ESL conversation groups, and operates a seed library supporting urban agriculture.
