📖 About Locke Branch
The Locke Branch serves the East Toledo neighborhood and traces its origins to one of the six Carnegie-funded libraries built in Lucas County. The original Locke Branch, designed by the Stophlet architectural firm, opened on December 5, 1917, and was named for David Ross Locke (1833–1888), the noted satirist and owner of the Toledo Blade. That historic Carnegie building was retired in 2007, when a new Locke Branch was constructed at 703 Miami Street as part of the library system's 10-year capital program funded by a bond levy approved by Lucas County voters in 1995. Today the branch offers the countywide catalog, public computers, Wi-Fi, a children's area, and program space for the East Toledo community.
