📖 About Birmingham Branch
The Birmingham Branch has served East Toledo's Birmingham neighborhood since 1920, when library service began inside the East Side Community House before the branch moved to its current brick building on Paine Avenue in 1930. The neighborhood grew as a tight-knit Hungarian settlement after the National Malleable Casting Company sponsored roughly 100 Hungarian families to live and work along the riverfront in the 1890s. Reflecting that heritage, the branch is home to a special Hungarian-language and culture collection and hosts the Birmingham Cultural Center, and its interior features stained-glass panels and a mural celebrating the community's Hungarian roots. Today it offers books, audiobooks, movies, online databases, programs for all ages, two community rooms, free Wi-Fi, public computers, and copying, faxing, and scanning services.
