📖 About Heatherdowns Branch
The Heatherdowns Branch has served south Toledo since 1968, when it opened with a distinctive circular design. A parallelogram-shaped addition in 1991 expanded the building into what was then the system's largest branch by square footage, and major renovations in 2015 and 2016 brought improved lighting, seating, and shelving along with a children's-area media wall featuring a 90-inch screen and two large interactive educational tablets. The branch draws more than 100,000 visits each year and offers books, e-books, audiobooks, movies, online resources, free Wi-Fi, public computers, three community rooms, and copying, faxing, and scanning services. In 2025 the library announced plans for a new consolidated south Toledo branch on Detroit Avenue, expected around 2028, that will eventually replace Heatherdowns; the branch remains fully open in the meantime.
