Set in Toledo's historic Old West End, the Kent Branch occupies the former Academy of Medicine building at Collingwood and Central and traces its roots to a 1917 library named for librarian Eliza Kent.

📖 About Kent Branch

The Kent Branch serves Toledo's historic Old West End at the corner of Collingwood Boulevard and Central Avenue. The original branch opened on December 11, 1917, in a building designed by architect L. G. Welker and was named for Eliza Kent, the assistant librarian who led the system's first Children's Collection. That building burned to the ground on December 1, 1974, and the branch operated temporarily from a nearby Collingwood storefront before reopening in 1976 in the former Academy of Medicine building, where it remains today. Now more than a century old as an institution, the Kent Branch continues to serve one of Toledo's most architecturally rich neighborhoods with books, digital resources, public computers, free Wi-Fi, and copy, fax, and scan services.
