📖 About Rockbridge Regional Library
Rockbridge Regional Library began in November 1934 when the Lexington Junior Woman's Club opened a Book Shelf reading room, soon sponsored by the Lexington Woman's Club. It evolved into the Lexington Public Library before being formally established as the Botetourt-Rockbridge Regional Library on July 1, 1946 — a regional model built to serve both city and rural residents. Today the Rockbridge Regional Library System (RRLS) operates seven locations: the Lexington headquarters plus branches in Bath County, Buena Vista, Fairfield, Glasgow and Goshen, and a bookmobile reaching outlying communities. The headquarters at 138 South Main Street serves Lexington — home to Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute — and provides hearing aid sound systems, microfilm for historical newspapers and census records, and a collection of local history materials. The library is one of the few in the Shenandoah Valley to offer both passport acceptance and notary public services on site.
