📖 About McGovern-Stella Link Regional Library

McGovern-Stella Link Regional Library serves the southwest Houston corridor near the Meyerland area, a diverse community outside Loop 610 that developed as one of Houston’s first deed-restricted subdivisions starting in 1955. As a Regional Library — a step above neighborhood branches in HPL’s system — it offers a broader range of collections and services. The branch is named for Dr. John P. McGovern (1921–2007), a Houston-based allergist and immunologist who founded the McGovern Allergy & Asthma Clinic in 1956, established the John P. McGovern Foundation in 1961, and ultimately gave hundreds of millions of dollars to institutions including UT Health Houston — whose medical school now bears his name as the McGovern Medical School. He received 29 honorary doctorates and the Surgeon General’s Medal in 1989.
