📖 About Jungman Neighborhood Library

The Jungman Neighborhood Library honors J. Frank Jungman, a Houston businessman active in cotton, oil, banking, and real estate who devoted much of his life to civic and cultural causes — helping found the public library in Hondo, Texas, and supporting the libraries at Rice University, Texas A&M University, and Houston Public Library. The branch opened on October 20, 1975, at 5830 Westheimer Road, placing it just west of The Galleria in the bustling Uptown district. Four decades of continuous use without renovation left the original building worn, prompting a $6.8 million overhaul that completely upgraded the interior and portions of the exterior. The renovated library was recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council with LEED Silver certification, reflecting a commitment to energy efficiency and a modern, open 21st-century space for the surrounding neighborhood.
