📖 About Hillendahl Neighborhood Library

The library takes its name from the Arnold L. Hillendahl family, pioneers of the Spring Branch area since its origins as a German farming settlement in the 1830s — an era when Karl Kolbe and other immigrants established dairies, sawmills, and the churches that defined early northwest Houston. Roads in the district still carry the names of those founding families, including Gessner, Hillendahl, and Witte. Today the branch at 2436 Gessner Road serves a neighborhood reshaped by successive waves of immigration — first Hispanic, then Korean — and provides free public resources, meeting rooms, and programming for this multilingual community.
