The Patterson Park Branch opened on April 9, 1910 at Linwood Avenue and Fayette Street, part of the wave of new Enoch Pratt branches funded after Andrew Carnegie's 1905 gift for library expansion. The building was expanded in 1954 to keep pace with its growing East Baltimore community. It stands on the east side of Library Square, a small urban green space the library describes as a pocket of nature in an otherwise densely built neighborhood, and it serves the Patterson Park and McElderry Park communities. Beyond the usual collections, computers, and printing, the branch is notable for hosting free English-as-a-Second-Language classes taught by Baltimore City Community College — a reflection of the immigrant families who have long settled in the surrounding blocks.
