📖 About Columbus Public Library
Columbus Public Library is the main branch and headquarters of the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries system, which serves Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Marion and Stewart counties in west-central Georgia. Library service in Columbus reaches back to 1832, and in 1881 the city's book and music clubs merged to establish the Columbus Public Library. An Andrew Carnegie grant of $30,000 built the community's first dedicated library building, which opened October 15, 1907; the main branch later moved to the William C. Bradley Memorial Library in 1950. Officials broke ground on the current 3000 Macon Road building on April 24, 2003, on the site of the former Columbus Square Mall, and the Georgia Public Library Service has since named it one of the state's most beautiful libraries. Today the branch anchors a system of seven libraries and two bookmobiles, houses a Black Writers Collection and a Southern Literature Collection, and offers curbside pick-up, public meeting rooms, computers and printing.
