📖 About Light Street Branch

The Light Street Branch is another of the Enoch Pratt Free Library's founding branches, with its original location opening on February 27, 1886. That first building served the peninsula neighborhoods south of the Inner Harbor for 85 years before closing in 1971, when a replacement branch opened the same year to keep library service in the community. Today the branch sits on Light Street in the heart of Federal Hill, only a few blocks from the historic Cross Street Market, and serves Federal Hill, Locust Point, Otterbein, and Sharp-Leadenhall. It offers an ADA-accessible entrance, free Wi-Fi, public computers, printing and copying, and separate children's and teen areas. Meeting and community rooms — including an auditorium space — are available for reservation, and the branch runs programs and events for all ages alongside job and career assistance.
