📖 About West Deptford Free Public Library
The West Deptford Free Public Library began in 1963 when community volunteers started collecting books with the goal of giving West Deptford Township its own public library. It officially incorporated on November 22, 1965, opening in the former Thorofare No. 3 School with approximately 5,000 donated volumes. By 1972 the growing collection moved to the former West Deptford town hall, and in 1979 the township formally established it as a municipal library. A purpose-built facility opened at 420 Crown Point Road in 1988 on the site of Marshall D. Hinman Field, serving patrons there for over three decades. In November 2025 the library moved to its current home at 611 Academy Avenue — a renovated former Colonial Manor Firehall that provides a modern, welcoming space for the community. Three departments — Adult Services, Children's Services, and Young Adult Services — deliver programming for all ages, from toddler storytimes to after-school activities and art workshops.
