The library's story began in June 1962 when a local PTA committee investigated opening a public library in Randolph, a township in Morris County that was growing rapidly with suburban development. By May 1963 the Randolph Township Public Library Association was incorporated as a non-profit; it purchased a small stone house on Millbrook Avenue and used the 600-square-foot garage as reading space while renting the rest of the building for income.
