📖 About Cook Memorial Public Library District
Cook Memorial Public Library District traces its roots to 1909, when the Alpha Club (now the Libertyville Woman's Club) established a subscription library, first housed in a local drugstore. In 1921, the estate of Ansel Brainerd Cook donated his family home and property to the village, and the library moved into Cook House at 413 N. Milwaukee Avenue — still the address of the Cook Park Library today. Oversight passed to a township board in 1924, and in 1973 the district formally incorporated as Cook Memorial Public Library District. A $14 million expansion project completed in January 2011 added a new children's wing and renovated the entire facility. In 2021 the district celebrated its centennial, and 2025 brought a significant refresh of the Youth Services area. The district now operates two locations: the flagship Cook Park Library in Libertyville and the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills, connected by a Wednesday bookmobile that makes community stops throughout the area. Amenities include electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot, a Seed Library, 3D printing and digital studios, and exam proctoring.
