The Chestatee Regional Library System was established in 1953 to serve Lumpkin and surrounding counties in the North Georgia mountains, with the Lumpkin County branch in Dahlonega functioning as system headquarters. Dahlonega itself is the seat of Lumpkin County and the site of the first significant gold rush in U.S. history, which began in 1828 and ultimately funded construction of the Georgia State Capitol's gold dome. The library at 56 Mechanicsville Road holds a broad collection of books, audiobooks, magazines, and digital materials, and supports community research through public computers, a 3D printer, and a full computer lab.
