📖 About Buckhead Library

Buckhead's library dates to 1929, when educator Ida Williams founded it inside the R.L. Hope School on Piedmont Road. It grew into a permanent home in 1942 with a neo-classical red-brick building and white-columned portico, long remembered as the Ida Williams Library. In 1990 that landmark gave way to the current ultra-modern 22,000-square-foot building designed by Scogin, Elam and Bray, though many residents still use the Ida Williams name. Recent renovations added large and medium meeting rooms, three study rooms, and a conference-style meeting space, plus a state-of-the-art teen center and a children's story time room. Patrons also have access to a computer lab, color and black-and-white printing and copying, and self-service checkout. The branch even serves as an early voting location, keeping it central to civic life in Buckhead.
