📖 About Martin Luther King Branch

The Martin Luther King Branch stands in the heart of King-Lincoln Bronzeville, one of Columbus's most historically significant African American neighborhoods on the Near East Side. When Columbus Metropolitan Library dedicated the branch on November 19, 1968, it became the first public library in the United States named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a name requested by the East Side Community Council. A new building at 1467 E. Long Street opened on October 18, 2018, with Martin Luther King III cutting the ribbon. Designed with the community and Dr. King's legacy in mind, it features an interactive children's area, an expanded homework help center, larger meeting and study rooms, curated art reflecting the neighborhood, and a signature "Reading Porch" oriented toward the Near East Side.
