The Orleans Street Branch anchors the heart of Oldtown and serves the surrounding Butchers Hill, Fells Point, Dunbar-Broadway, Perkins Homes, Harbor East, Johnston Square, and Middle East neighborhoods. Its lineage traces back to the old Broadway Branch, which opened in 1888 at North Broadway and Miller Streets. The library moved to Broadway and Orleans Streets in February 1971, and in 2007 relocated to its current corner site at Orleans Street and Central Avenue. Today it occupies a purpose-built modern facility rather than a historic Carnegie-era shell, giving it open, accessible interiors and a dedicated free parking lot uncommon among city branches. Separate children's and teen sections, public computers, self check-out, and job and career assistance make it a full-service neighborhood resource. Outdoor and indoor free Wi-Fi extend its reach beyond opening hours.
