📖 About Chickasha Public Library
Chickasha Public Library is the city-run public library of Chickasha, Oklahoma, the Grady County seat located on the Washita River about 40 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. Chickasha takes its name from the Chickasaw Nation, whose members settled the area in the 1870s. The library at 527 West Iowa Avenue provides Chickasha and Grady County residents with a broad print collection of books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and kits alongside electronic resources through the Oklahoma Virtual Library. It stands out for its genealogy and local history collection — an extensive reference room holding city directories, high school and University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma yearbooks, family histories, organizational records, and obituaries. The library also hosts the Chickasha Newspaper Collection: digitized, searchable images of local and Grady County papers from 1900 to present, produced with an Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant from the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Friends of the Library.
