📖 About Los Lunas Public Library

Los Lunas is the county seat of Valencia County, New Mexico, a community in the Middle Rio Grande Valley about 20 miles south of Albuquerque where the Luna family — for whom both the county and the village are named — were among the earliest settlers. The library's roots go back to 1959, when the Belen Women's Club established a branch of the Eastern Valencia County Library System in Los Lunas, beginning with a donation of over 300 books housed in the Valencia County Courthouse on Luna Avenue and Main Street. The collection later moved to a facility on Luna Avenue before settling at its current address at 460 Main Street NE, one block west of the village fire station and across from Los Lunas Middle School. Today the library holds nearly 50,000 volumes and circulates about 65,600 items annually to the village's 27,700 residents. Through its membership in the New Mexico State Library network, cardholders have free access to El Portal, the state library's digital gateway of licensed databases and eResources.
