📖 About Mesa Public Library
The Mesa Public Library traces its roots to 1943, when 70 Los Alamos families each contributed $5 to launch a subscription lending service during the wartime Manhattan Project years. It became a free public institution in 1945, and in 1994 moved into its current landmark building designed by Albuquerque architect Antoine Predock — whose floor plan traces the silhouette of a bird when viewed from above. The collection exceeds 160,000 items spanning books, CDs, DVDs, original art, and multilingual materials, with a Southwest Collection of approximately 3,400 volumes focused on the history and culture of New Mexico and Arizona. The library is the main branch of the Los Alamos County Library System, which also operates the LEED Silver-certified White Rock Branch Library.
