📖 About Mahwah Public Library
Mahwah Public Library was born in 1912 when community member Eleanor Bugg opened her home as an informal reading room for Mahwah residents — laying the foundation for what would become a formally incorporated free public library. Located at 100 Ridge Road in northern Bergen County, Mahwah sits where the Ramapo Mountains meet the New Jersey–New York border, giving the library a community of hikers, commuters, and families to serve. Today the collection exceeds 100,000 books, DVDs, CDs, and digital resources, and the library circulates more than 332,000 items per year. Mahwah is a member of BCCLS (Bergen County Cooperative Library System), whose shared card works at 78 libraries across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties. As an official U.S. passport acceptance facility, the library accepts passport applications by appointment — a convenience for residents traveling through nearby Newark Liberty International Airport.
