The Washington Township Public Library serves Long Valley and surrounding Morris County communities from its 1996 building in Rock Spring Park at 37 East Springtown Road. Library service in Washington Township traces back to the 1920s, when residents circulated books from private homes; a PTA-run community library at the local school followed in the 1950s, and a formal public library opened on Fairview Ave in 1967. As the township's population grew, the library moved to Schooley's Mountain, then in 1995 ground was broken for the current dedicated facility, which opened in June 1996. Today it belongs to the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS), meaning a Washington Township card unlocks holdings at more than 75 member libraries across northern and central New Jersey.
