📖 About Braswell Memorial Library
Braswell Memorial Library is the public library of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a city that straddles the line between Nash and Edgecombe counties. It began in 1922 as the Woman's Club Library and was named for Thomas Hackney Braswell; the Thomas Hackney Braswell Memorial Library building opened in 1923 and housed the library for nearly eighty years. In 2002 the library moved across the street into a new 60,000-square-foot facility at 727 North Grace Street and reorganized as an interlocal governmental agency jointly created and funded by the City of Rocky Mount, Nash County, and Edgecombe County. From here it provides administrative support to a set of small rural branches — including libraries in Bailey, Whitakers, Middlesex, and Spring Hope — serving the Twin Counties region. The library belongs to the State Library of North Carolina's NC Cardinal consortium, so a Braswell card borrows and places holds across a shared statewide catalog, and it offers passport acceptance, meeting and study rooms, and a deep set of free online resources.
