📖 About Fallon County Library

Fallon County Library traces its roots to a small women's reading club whose 30 donated volumes sparked a public library movement in Baker, Montana. After passing through the Woman's Club organization, the Legion Hall, and the Masonic Lodge building, the library found its first official librarian in 1928 — Mrs. R. E. McQuinn, paid 25 cents per hour. The library incorporated as Baker Public Library in the 1940s, purchased and renovated the Long Schoolhouse, and dramatically expanded its service hours from 8 to 45 per week after joining library federation membership through the 1959 Library Services Act. The current purpose-built facility at 6 West Fallon Avenue opened on April 19, 1970, and now holds approximately 20,250 items. The library provides interlibrary loan, fax services, public computers, and access to the Montana Shared Catalog and statewide digital databases for all Fallon County residents.
