📖 About Wibaux Public Library

Wibaux Public Library is the public library of Wibaux, Montana, county seat of Wibaux County in the far eastern corner of the state near the North Dakota border. Wibaux County is Montana's smallest county by area, and the town itself was named for Pierre Wibaux, a French cattle baron who played a pivotal role in rebuilding the northern Great Plains cattle industry after the devastating winter of 1886–1887. The library holds 14,215 volumes and circulates approximately 6,590 items per year for a service population of about 1,017 residents — a testament to strong community use. It has been part of the Montana Shared Catalog since adopting the Symphony automation system in 2002, and it participates in MontanaLibrary2Go and OCLC Group Services. The library belongs to the Sagebrush Library Federation and is governed by a five-member board that meets monthly. Director Mindy Van Vleet and a small dedicated staff operate the library five days a week. Fax service is available at (406) 795-5779.
