📖 About White Lake Township Library
The White Lake Township Library traces its roots to a resolution passed at the April 1975 annual meeting of township electors, when residents voted to establish a free public library under Michigan Act 164 of 1877. The library board formed that May, and in March 1981 the first collection — roughly 4,000 donated books — opened to the public in the White Lake Community Hall. A purpose-built building on Highland Road followed in 1985, expanded significantly in 2001. By 2019 the community had outgrown that facility as well, and on June 6, 2019, the library celebrated the grand opening of its current $8.6 million, 28,000-square-foot home. The new building weathered its first major test quickly: during the economic hardships of 2008, library visits had surged 41 percent as residents relied on its computers, job resources, and community programs. Today the library offers a full Library of Things (STEAM kits, seed library, storytime backpacks), one-on-one tech help, exam proctoring, and drive-up services alongside a rich digital collection.
