The DeWitt District Library traces its institutional roots to the 1940s, when the Michigan State Library recognized it as DeWitt Public Library. In 1962 the village and township agreed to jointly support a district library, creating the legal entity that exists today. The district is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees — three seats appointed by DeWitt Township, three by the City of DeWitt, and one by Watertown Township. The library holds approximately 47,230 volumes and circulates more than 180,858 items per year, making it a central resource for mid-Michigan families. Its digital platform includes Libby, hoopla, Kanopy, Mango Languages, and MeL (Michigan eLibrary), the state's free statewide digital doorway.
