📖 About CADL Downtown Lansing

Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) was established on January 2, 1998 when voters approved a district-wide millage to merge the Ingham County Libraries with the Lansing Public Libraries. The system now operates 13 branch locations plus a mobile library serving 23 municipalities across most of Ingham County and part of Eaton County. Its collection exceeds 630,000 items circulating more than 2.28 million times annually among 98,000+ members. The Downtown Lansing branch at 401 South Capitol Avenue serves as the system's flagship, located steps from the Michigan State Capitol building. It offers Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements on public computers, an Adult Literacy Collection with audiobooks, ESOL materials and courses, a world-language collection in more than 17 languages, fax service and first-come study rooms. As of April 2026 the Local History Center formerly housed in the branch's lower level relocated to a new facility at 2175 University Park Drive in Okemos.
