Brighton District Library is the public library serving Brighton and the surrounding communities of Livingston County, Michigan, operating from its dedicated building at 100 Library Drive since 1996. The library traces its roots to 1928, when the Brighton Public Library first opened in Old City Hall at 202 W Main Street. Over the following decades the library relocated several times — to a former fire hall (1950), a former Detroit Edison substation (1957), back to Town Hall (1965), and then to the Municipal Building (1981) — before voters approved district library status in 1992 and the current $3 million building was dedicated in 1996. Today Brighton District Library is a member of The Library Network (TLN) cooperative and is classified as a Special District Public Library. The collection spans physical books, media, and downloadable titles. The Brighton Room holds specialized materials for Brighton and Livingston County local history and genealogy. The Inspo-lab makerspace offers hands-on creative technology, and the Children's Garden provides an outdoor space for parent-child nature experiences.
