📖 About Hāna Public and School Library
The Hāna Public and School Library sits on the campus of Hāna High and Elementary School, one of the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System's few branches that doubles as a school library serving both students and the wider public. Library service in Hāna dates back to May 1922, when a Hāna Branch first opened in a room of the old Kaeleku Sugar Mill gymnasium; the current 7,568-square-foot building, designed by architect Dennis T. Toyamura, opened on January 14, 1984. Because Hāna is separated from the rest of Maui by hours of winding coastal highway, the branch is a central gathering place offering free Wi-Fi, study space and HSPLS borrowing to a small remote population.
