📖 About Edgewater Branch

The Edgewater Branch opened its current building at 6000 North Broadway on June 22, 2013, replacing an older branch that had served the neighborhood since April 14, 1973. Designed with Lohan Anderson as architect of record and built for roughly $13.7 million, the 16,300-square-foot, two-story structure is about 5,300 square feet larger than the branch it succeeded and was designed to earn LEED Gold certification. The added space allowed the library to grow from just ten public computers to fifty desktops plus laptops, and to add a large dividable community room and two study rooms. A signature feature is Edgewater YOUmedia, an enclosed teen learning lab with its own dedicated teen librarian and programming in STEM and financial literacy. The branch also hosts a seed library and maintains collections in several languages, including Spanish, reflecting the surrounding community.
