📖 About ʻAiea Public Library
The current ʻAiea Public Library opened on July 19, 2014, replacing the original 1964 building and rising on the former ʻAiea Sugar Mill site, which operated from 1899 to 1998. Designed by CDS International to echo the old mill buildings and built to earn LEED gold certification with rooftop photovoltaic panels, the roughly 17,200-square-foot branch nearly doubled the previous library's capacity, holding up to 86,000 items. Serving central Oʻahu near Pearl Harbor, it devotes about half its floor space to a children's area with an enclosed storytime room, and its young adult section is known for one of the largest manga and anime collections in the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System.
