📖 About Mānoa Public Library
The Mānoa Public Library is a neighborhood branch of the Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS), the only statewide public library system in the United States. Its $10.3 million replacement building — designed by architect Gary Kawakami of Architecture Plus, Inc., and built by Allied Pacific Builders on the site of the original library — opened June 9, 2012. The environmentally-friendly building earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification in 2013, with rooftop photovoltaic solar panels, a high-efficiency air-conditioning system, and covered parking for cars and bicycles. Set in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's home valley, it is consistently one of the busiest, highest-circulating libraries in the HSPLS system, with a free Wi-Fi, a laptop and computer area, and a separate programming room used for storytimes, movie afternoons and teen crafts. A single HSPLS library card issued here borrows across every branch on all the islands and unlocks the system's shared digital collections.
