📖 About Morgan County Library

Morgan County Library serves as the headquarters branch of the Azalea Regional Library System, a nine-member consortium spanning Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Morgan, Putnam, and Walton counties in central Georgia. Madison itself is renowned as one of the best-preserved antebellum towns in the American South — a distinction it earned partly because, according to local tradition, U.S. Senator Joshua Hill persuaded General William T. Sherman to spare the town during the 1864 March to the Sea. The library at 1131 East Avenue provides the full range of PINES services, connecting cardholders to a statewide "borderless library" shared by all 51 Georgia library systems. The Landry Learning Lab & Makerspace brings modern creative technology to a historic community, while the Bonnie L. Hickey Heritage Room preserves local history materials for researchers. A dedicated assistive-technology workstation serves visually impaired patrons, and free notary service is available by appointment.
