📖 About Winter Park Library
The Winter Park Library began as the Winter Park Circulating Library Association on December 9, 1885, when nine women gathered at the Congregational Church parsonage and placed their first collection on Evaline Lamson's porch at 503 Interlachen Avenue. Membership cost one dollar a year. By 1900 the group had raised $1,216 for a permanent building, which opened in April 1902 on Interlachen Avenue — designed by Boston architect George D. Rand. The collection grew through four expansions, a 1979 move to East New England Avenue, and a third-floor addition in 1995. On December 13, 2021, the library opened its current home at Morse Boulevard and Harper Street, a state-of-the-art facility designed by Pritzker-winning architect Sir David Adjaye. The library operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 59-0794396), with collections funded in part through Florida's State Aid to Libraries Grant. Today it offers a Dream Room Lab, Memory Lab, Recording Studio, homebound delivery, seed library, and the beloved Angel Paws to Read program established in 2010.
