The W. Alan Summers Municipal Library — formerly known as the Clay Public Library — serves the Clay community of Pinson in Jefferson County. It was founded in 2009 when dedicated residents renovated a historic local residence to create the town's first library. The collection and community demand grew steadily, and on June 2, 2018, the library moved into a modern 6,600-square-foot building constructed on the historic Clay Elementary School site, a detail that links the new library directly to the community's educational heritage. As a member of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC), patrons share borrowing privileges across more than 20 area libraries. The library offers 10 public computers with internet and Microsoft Office, free Wi-Fi, first-come first-serve study rooms, printing (15¢ black-and-white, 50¢ color), faxing, Storytime Kits for preschoolers, a community Seed Swap, and access to the New York Times and Alabama Virtual Library.
