📖 About The John P. Holt Brentwood Library
Brentwood's public library traces its roots to 1976, when the city's first permanent library opened as a 950-square-foot Williamson County branch at the Maryland Farms complex. The City of Brentwood took full control of the library in 1983, running it as a municipal department, and after outgrowing a series of homes the library moved to its current, centrally located site at 8109 Concord Road in 1998. During construction, workers uncovered a grave that led archaeologists to the remnants of a Mississippian tribal village dating back to the 1200s; the artifacts and burials were recovered and preserved before the building was completed. The library passed its millionth patron within four years of opening and expanded to roughly 55,000 square feet in 2009, adding teen space and larger collections. In 2017 it was renamed the John P. Holt Brentwood Library after O'Delle K. Holt left a $4.25 million bequest to the city in memory of her late husband, John P. Holt, to care for and enhance the library. Today it operates as a department of the City of Brentwood and strives, in its own words, to be a vibrant community center for lifelong learning and the arts.
